01/31/24 – garbageface 2023 Year In Review & 2024 Almanac

YEAR IN REVIEW:

total shows played: 21

things released / done: completed the recording, mixing, and release of ENANTIODROMIA (vinyl and digital available here); adapted the recorded score of the theatre production of ENKIDU into a live performance for a week of shows.

other things: i took over hosting Drone Day (Noise Hz Forever); i wrestled with music hardware as i set about forming a new instrumental project called Gnostic Front; i played a handful of debut GNOSTIC FRONT shows. i recorded and scrapped and recorded and scrapped a bunch of GF material.

THE ALMANAC:

well shit. this past year was a busy one. it started with an intensive few months of turning ENKIDU from a recorded score into a live performance. and even though ENANTIODROMIA was mostly done as this year turned, it took an inordinate amount of effort to get it over the finish line. the mixing process took forever, but i think it was worth it in the end. i'm so happy with how it came out. among all of that i did my first east coast tour since the pandemic, and did another lil' mini tour around my birthday in the summer, and i brought GNOSTIC FRONT into reality with a handful of live shows and a whole shitload of studio experiments.

i'm not going to lie — ENANTIODROMIA took a lot out of me, a lot out of garbageface. and so, this year, i'm going to let garbageface rest a little bit, while i lean into GNOSTIC FRONT and see where that takes me. i hope to release a debut record called ALL WAR IS SPIRITUAL WAR, play some more shows, and solidify my live setup. i can't tell you how much i've been enjoying making music entirely with hardware, and as much as it feels intensely challenging to be making musci this way, it's scratching an itch in my brain that i didn't know i needed to scratch so badly.

later this year, i'll be doing another live performance soundtrack — this time, for a unique dance performance piece that will be interactive with a giant kinetic sculpture. it will likely only ever be performed in Peterborough, so keep an eye out and make travel arrangements if you want to catch it.

touring? maybe. i mean, i'll definitely be out there, screaming and shouting and making a racket in many different towns, but we'll just how much i string together. i hope to see you on the floor with me, and i hope to feel you sweat like i sweat.

be good out there, and take care of yrselves.
