01/01/26 – garbageface industries 2025 Year In Review & 2026 Almanac
YEAR IN REVIEW:
total shows played: 8
things worked on / done / released: this was another year of solid Gnostic Front activities — centrally, the rather grueling production and realization of INDUSTRY STANDARD. i also produced a whole album worth of demos for a record that is tentatively called THE PRESENT DISORDER IS THE ORDER OF THE FUTURE, but those demos remain in a sort of creative limbo.
other things: after much false starting, i passed off two of the tracks that i produced for ANOMALIA over to Thee Tyler Martin for mixing magic, and god did he ever work his wizardry on them. you can grab those here. if yr a subscriber, you know that the under the full moon newsletter continued to thrive, and even expanded into a couple of interviews (here and here). and of course, i ran PTBO Drone Day again last year — it remains one of my favourite days of the year, and i already can't wait for this year's edition.
cups of coffee consumed: ~777
THE ALMANAC:
2o25 was a hell of a tough year, personally. Without getting into the gritty and the gritty, death is a constant and grief is a motherfucker. These factors, amongst others, meant that I played the fewest garbageface shows I have since 2012.
The upside, if we could call it that, was that this space resulted in having more capacity to grind through the composition, production, and manufacture of INDUSTRY STANDARD. It was one of the hardest projects I've ever worked on, and involved me mentally (and sonically) returning to some of the darkest places I've ever been to. I will say that it was a project I very much wanted to do, but I'm also very glad it's done. Other than IS, I produced a whole other Gnostic Front album worth of demos that I quickly moved beyond. I think they're good, but I'm not sure if they'll ever see the light of day. I'm already moving in a different direction.
This coming year has a few things in store.
On that aforementioned Gnostic Front zig and zag, I'll be finishing that record, currently titled THE PRESENT DISORDER IS THE ORDER OF THE FUTURE. In terms of sound and spirit, I am trying (and likely failing) to channel Jeff Mills on a 909 run through totalizing distortion and waves of feedback. It's been exciting to work on.
I'll be picking up the soundtrack I produced for ENKIDU, this time in short film form. I was always stoked about that soundtrack but didn't have the bandwidth at the time to see the live soundtrack through to a release. This latest iteration will be different, but will definitely be oriented towards a standalone release.
And... garbageface is back. So is Matt. It's been 10 years since NØ FUTUR(E)... I really want to give a big effusive update on this, but I'm sure you can figure it out. Mark yr calendars for Friday, November 13th, 2026.
Will 2026 see me back on the road? Yes. How much remains to be seen. Here's hoping it's a lot.
be good out there,
garbageface.
